Reading Wheelcock’s description of his first encounter with this painting in the Examiner (April 19, 2009) was so similar to my own encounter in the NGA. I was so drawn to the atmosphere – the light from the painting almost seems to fill the room. What an under-rated work. Too bad it’s so hard to find a print of it.
