Brave faces, but we were all really cold by this point. Leslie and Antonio. I recommend having a chick from Detroit and a Marine, respectively, on your Tough Mudder team. Harley and Antonio, all smiles. Leslie, me, Antonio, Harley. Getting peptalked at the starting line. The Inflamed Beltrans, nee the Warriors of Artete, in full flight. The Inflamed Beltrans are all here. You can just make out Leslie's butt in between Antionio and Harley. The Electic Eel obstacle. Those yellow strings are live wires. "Up to 10,000 voluts," the Tough Mudder website claims. I kept my chin in mud so I wouldn't find out. Harley Army-crawled under the livewires, and indeed traversed pretty much all the obstacles, a little faster than I did. I like the handprint on his shoulder. Here we all are again. I'm spitting out mud, Leslie's mugging, Harley's ready to get going already. This is after the Electric Eel obstacle, No. 5 of 22. It's early the race, and I'm still somewhat warm and confident. Greased Lighting, the easiest obstacle of the day... ...at least until you get to the bottom, when you're wading through more cold, muddy water. This was the fourth of four consecutive water obstacles in the final quarter of the course. Everest. My teammates Harley & Antonio are pulling me up the wall. Electroshock Therapy. Last obstacle before the finish line. I did get zapped on this one. Not the face! Team hug at the finsh line. Those thin foil blankets weren't much shelter against the wind. Our clothes were soaked. Note that the teammate to my left is enjoying the classic postrace combo of a Dos Equis & a Builder Bar. Breakfast, I like to call it. Victory beers. My hand was shaking so violently I immediately spilled half of mine. Trying to get warm after changing into a dry thermal shirt and a hoodie..
